CLOVER: Water From Thin Air

CLOVER is half botany and half engineering. Modified Trifolium repens (white clover) harness water from airborne humidity within the agriculture spaces of future lunar lava tube colonies and pulls it into the soil.

Enhanced capillary features on the leaf and stem surfaces make the clover plant itself a machine for collecting water, pumping it into the soil via capillary action… potentially even into soils attached to the ceiling.

This illustrates the promise of sustainable, low-infrastructure farming in lunar gravity. Clover could also benefit Earth agriculture as the climate – and arid regions – continues to shift.
